49/365: Take a Seat, My New Cheap Office Chair

18 February 2010 6 Comments Disclosure

I was doing a bit of online reading a while ago when I came across an article about using an exercise ball as an office chair. I was pretty intrigued by the idea since I do spend a good portion of time sitting in an office chair already. So I ran out to the store and found the cheapest ball that I could find that matched my height criteria (less than $10), because let’s face at this point I’m not too sure how well it will all work out and I don’t want to spend a lot of dough on something that I might potentially not use next week.

49/365:  Take a Seat

I’ve been sitting on my new “office chair” for about two days now and I must say its actually kind of fun. I have noticed a difference in my posture and when I’m just browsing around the net I find myself rocking back and forth on the ball. Whether or not the ball will cure my desire to constantly sit in a crossed legged position while typing is still yet to be determined. But I think I rather like the non-conventional office chair idea. It adds fun to my office space and fun makes for happy computer time.

    So I’m assuming the ball helps with posture? Hmm. You’ve got me tempted now!

    @Jenn, that is what the article said was the main benefits. I have horrible posture, I’m always slumped at my desk with one leg folded under me. I guess the point is because you don’t have a chair back to lean into but if you are like me this isn’t the problem for you because I don’t lean back but actually slump forward when using the computer. I’ve only been using the ball for a couple of days but I have noticed that when typing I sit up a bit straighter. I haven’t completely kicked the sitting with one leg up under me habit and sometimes I do find myself trying to revert back to my bad posture ways but the ball looks to be a point in the right direction for me.

    I saw this before and was thinking about getting one too. I just hope my cat or dog won’t pop it :)

    @Shelly, I’m so scared that I will sit on it and forgot I dropped a pen or something on the floor and pop it.

    Two of my Hubby’s coworkers alternate between a regular chair and the ball chair. I hope you enjoy it! :)

    @Jacklyn, very cool to know.
