Game Time Giveaway (sponsored by Walmart)

29 January 2010 33 Comments Disclosure

There was a time when I was a cheerleader (think highschool) and was seen at every game. But now times are different. While hubby still enjoys football and preferably baseball, I only really get into watching one game a year. I’m pretty sure you can guess which one that is…*cough cough* the big day is next weekend. One of the main reasons why I enjoy my yearly football game is because of the opportunity to entertain. In years past I’ve either had a party just for our family or invite a few friends over to share the experience with but none the less I love going all out for my yearly sports game even down to my attire. I may not be rocking the team colors but you can bet I’ve got some kind of sports something or other on during the game. Entertaining and dressing the part just fuels my inner hostess.

Since I am one of the Walmart Moms I was told about a unique promotion that Walmart is doing in honor of Game Time. When it comes to entertaining it can be kind of expensive depending on how many people you have attending your party. Walmart has put together a budget-friendly list of products to easily feed your guests with just $44:

  • One package of Oscar Meyer meat hot dogs (8 ct.)
  • One package of Johnsonville bratwursts (6 ct.)
  • Two packages of Great Value hot dog buns
  • Two bags of T.G.I. Friday’s frozen appetizers
  • One Hormel Supreme Party Tray
  • 12” Chocolate Chunk Cookie
  • Two boxes of Nabisco Wheat Thins or Triscuit Crackers (8-10 oz. box)

I’m thinking of picking up one of those take & bake pizzas from Walmart plus some other goodies like ingredients to make my own ooey gooey spinach dip.

It depends on what I’m in the mood for, but no matter what I always have cheese and crackers, and veggies and dip. :)

I really enjoy one pot meals for entertaining, since hot dogs are best roasted, and no one wants to stand out and do that, so I love little smokies. I also like having a pot of bbq or hawaiian meatballs too. ;)

Chips & dip, cans of soda, hot dogs, burgers and homemade subs are at the top of the list of cheap party foods for us! We often make our own dips, subs, cookies, etc., as buying the ingredients and taking the time to make them definitely costs a lot less than purchasing ready-made items.

We do pot-luck Superbowl where everybody brings a sidedish and I provide pizza but I always make my homemade salsa and have crackers and cheese.

My sister makes an amazing hot wing dip, and you’ve always gotta have brownies of some sort, plus crunchy potato chips with French onion dip!! I also like having fresh fruit, although that can be a little more expensive– but always welcome in the dead of winter!

I make large quantities of each menu item to cut down on the number of different ingredients that I have to shop for. I make hot wings, BBQ wings, layered taco dip, a veggie tray and self-serve nacho bar.

I usually blacken a few chicken breasts, a flat iron steak and cook some pork in the slow cooker in salsa verde. Slice up the chicken and steak and serve alongside sour cream, spanish rice, black beans, sliced green onions, salsa, cheese etc and a huge pile of tortillas. That way everyone can make their own burritos the way they like them.

I have also made a huge pot of chili with the same sort of side items and let everyone add what they want buffet style. Cheap, plentiful and delicious!

Can’t go wrong with chips and dips or nachos. I love to make it easy so we can enjoy the game. I also like to make little tacos or we just grill out if weather permitts hotdogs and burgers.

I love doing some tacodogs, nachos, cake and chips! I love the snack foods and Walmart is awesome on their deals. I can get almost everything in one stop… I seriously loathe the other stores when it comes to making a one stop trip!

This is only budget-friendly during the summer months, but one of our favorite “fancy” TV snacks is jalapeno pepper stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. Pioneer Woman has a yummy recipe on her site!
