Cleaning Gadgets for the Holidays

17 December 2009 2 Comments Disclosure

One of the things I hate most about the Holidays or anytime of the year for that matter is cleaning. I often feel as a mother that I am constantly cleaning. I’m often heard on twitter as complaining about the never ending cleaning cycle that I am constantly enduring. It seems as if one minute after I’m done cleaning up a mess another one begins. But this is life and I have accepted it as such, for now.

Most people probably wouldn’t request a cleaning tool for Christmas, I on the other hand welcome it. Anything to make my cleaning life easier, I am all for. When a representative for Dirt Devil approached me about their latest product, I knew I wanted to give it the kidlet test. The representative sent me a Dirt Devil BD10100 Gator 10.8-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner a few weeks later and I’ve been testing ever since. What I like about the Gator is that it is actually kind of cute. It’s shiny red color goes perfectly and now calls itself home in my apple decorated kitchen. When it comes to after lunch messes it is quick to get the job done. When I was younger I thought my Dad was crazy obsessed with his dust buster. I remember times after anytime that we ate, him constantly “dust bustin’” up all the crumbs that we made. But now as I’m older I can completely appreciate the obsession. Small compact vaccuums are my friend and help keep my sweeping down to a minimum which I really like. Speaking of sweeping, one thing I have noticed is that I’ve stopped using my dust pan as often as I used to. With the Gator after sweeping I simply suck up the line of dirt into the mini vaccuum and dump it into the trashcan with its easy release button that releases the trapped dirt and debris directly into the trash can.

Speaking of cleaning up kidlet messes, take a look at the photo to the right. Looks like a real vacuum, kind of, right? Actually this is the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner DC14 for kids! A rep offered to send me one of these kid Dyson toy vaccuums to try out with the kidlets. We are actually saving this vacuum for the kids to open up on Christmas morning so I can’t tell you how it works, if it works, or anything of that nature but according to the box this product is made by Candon. I personally think the vacuum is really cute but as for how well it will stand up to the test of kidlets is still to be seen. I do love the idea of kids having their own mini-sized units to play pretend with as Mommy does her daily cleaning around the house. I’m sure other brands offer similar toy vacuums for kidlets to imitate Mom or Dad with as well. So let me ask, what do you think about buying matching “toy appliances” for kids to play/imitate with? Is it a good idea or a bad one? Has anyone tried the Dyson DC31 handheld?

If you could choose any type of cleaning appliance, which one would you choose to receive as a Christmas gift?

A Steam Mop would be my answer. I have been eyeballing these things for a while now and really would like to try one out. Anyone out there have one? Do you like it, hate it? I’m looking for a better way to clean my kitchen floors.

Disclosure: The Dirt Devil Gator and Dyson kid vacuum blog mentions are sponsored by the representatives for each product. Products were provided to me in order to offer my honest opinion.
