My Top Ten Beauty Products

22 October 2009 9 Comments Disclosure

People always ask me what my favorite beauty products are, so I figured I would make a list of my current favorite products. This is a list of products that I’m currently loving. Now this list may change later on as I try out new products…hey I’m a makeup junky what can I say, that is what I do.

Mascaras

Get me stranded on a deserted island and you better believe I’m bringing along some mascara. Below are two of my favorite mascaras and why I love them. These are the ones that I keep going back to time and time again.

L’oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara

This is my go-to everyday mascara. I love the big brush and stiff bristles which allows me to get in there and coat most of my lashes easily. Apply a little or a lot depends on the drama of the day.
Please visit the L’oreal website for more information about Extra Volume Collagen Mascara. This mascara is also available online at stores like Amazon.com*

L’oreal Double Extend Mascara with Beauty Tubes Technology.

I love this mascara for nights. The beauty tubes technology is pretty neat in my opinion. I like that there is two steps to this mascara, first the white conditioning coat, then the black coat of mascara. This mascara gives me a nice dramatic, evening eye when I’m not in the mood for wearing false lashes. The product can on the other hand be kind of messy when trying to remove, the product says you can remove it with water but to be safe an eye makeup remover is best to get all of the product off, this is what I have to do.
Snag this product at local drugstores & super-centers or on Amazon.com.

Here is a post I did a while back when I first tried out these products, if you are interested in knowing more information.

Eyeshadows

What would I do without eyeshadow? Eyeshadows are my favorite beauty product of all time. They allow me to express myself in ways that I would do otherwise. I’m not one that would wear high-fashion clothing but I will slap some lime green eyeshadow on my face and call it a day. Its my way of expressing myself outside of the box.

Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palette

I fell in love with this makeup palette the first time I layed eyes on it. It was like a Diva’s dream with all the bright, vibrant, beautiful colors all displayed in a single, easy to pack palette. I like that I don’t have to go out and buy individual shades, I have every shade I could possibly want in a single kit.
The 88 palette by Coastal Scents is very popular. They are always running out of stock and with good reason. Its a hot item because it is great eyeshadow at a really great price. The trick to great color pay off is an eyeshadow base.
I love this palette so much that I’m looking into the Coastal Scents ® 88 Color Warm Palette for a Christmas present for myself. While I have and love the matte version of the 88 palette, they also have an Ultra Shimmer version available for gals that like the shimmer.
Coastal Scents ® 88 Color Makeup Palette* is also available at amazon.com as well as Coastal Scents .com .

Interested in finding out what I thought when I first got the 88 palette in the mail? Check out my first video reactions here. And don’t forget about the beauty tutorial I did on a pink smoky eye using this palette.

Eyeliners

I’ve tried them all…pencils, liquid, gels. What do I prefer?

Gel Liners from Coastal Scents

Like the 88 makeup palette and all its colors, gel liners at Coastal Scents comes in a wide array of colors as well. What I liked about this product is that its so smooth to apply with an angled eyeliner brush. While the convenience factor isn’t there with gel liners in terms of taking them with you on the go in your purse, I like the initial pay off of the product. Its a nice in-between between a pencil and liquid eyeliner.
Coastal Scents has sales every weekend. When I purchased these products I bought them during a buy 2 get one free sale. The colors I chose were true black, truffle (brown), and indigo blue.
I’ve also noticed that the gel liners last a good while, just make sure to keep them closed up so they don’t dry out.

Foundations

L’oreal Bare Naturale mineral foundation

I started out my obsession with mineral powder foundations from an infamous infomercial on television. I’ve gone from the higher brands to the more wallet friendly versions. L'Oreal Bare Naturale Mineral Foundation – Soft Ivory* is one of those wallet friendly versions that I can pick up at a moments notice from my drugstore or super-centers. With the cheaper versions of mineral powder foundation they do often times come with a brush but I find that a good kabuki brush is the best option versus the ones that the product comes with (Coastal Scents has good affordable brush options).

e.l.f. Cosmetics Mineral Powder Foundation

Minerals, minerals, minerals I love mineral powder foundations. What I love even more is e.l.f. cosmetics price on their mineral foundations. I’ve tried lots of mineral powder foundations for several years now and the e.l.f. cosmetics one is one of my favorites because of the price.
N.Y.C. cosmetics also has a cheap mineral powder foundation, the trick is trying to find them at your local drugstore.

Coastal Scents Blush, Contour, Highlight Palette

Love the Contour, Highlight, and Blush Palette from Coastal Scents (can you tell I really like coastalscents.com). With this palette I’m able to give myself the illusion of cheekbones, that are not otherwise noticeable. The two product rounds that get used the most from this palette for me is the dark brown bronzer type shade, I use this to do my contouring, and the white highlighting shade to add highlighted areas on my face.

Primers & Bases

Primers & Bases, where do I begin. These products are your foundation before you put on actual foundation. You apply to the skin as if you were applying moisturizer which helps whatever product you apply over top last longer and have an overall smoother finish.

Rimmel London Fix & Perfect

I just recently started using this foundation primer myself. I have been on the lookout for a foundation primer for some time now but didn’t want to pay the expensive prices the department stores were asking. I heart this primer, even though I do not have others to compare it to. I do notice a different when I use it versus the days when I am not. I found my tube at my local Walmart, but other drugstores might carry it as well.

L’oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base*

I couldn’t live without this product, I absolutely love it. With the various eye makeup looks that I like to do on a daily basis this really helps my shadow stay in place and stay on throughout the day. There are other eyeshadow bases on the market as well but this one is great because it fits my budget. And I’m all about budget friendly products.

Lips

I’m a no fuss kind of lips girl. I don’t have very “big” lips, they are just sort of there so I typically do not draw attention to them and just play up my eyes.

Liquid LipSmackers

A little liquid Lipsmackers and some nude lip liner and I’m all set in the lip department. What I like about lipsmackers is they they smell fabulous and the clear, shine goes with anything.

Bonus: Nails

I always have my nails done in a French manicure. Since the first time I tried, I absolutely fell in love with ELF cosmetics french manicure kits, and at only $3 really it is perhaps my most frugal makeup goodies in my bag today. But a secret between you and me, I typically only paint my toes because I find that with typing all day, doing chores, etc. that nail polish never lasts long on my fingernails. So its just toes for me.

What are your favorite beauty products?

The ones you find yourself buying over and over again, the ones you can’t live without.

Disclosure: this list of products is my own personal favorites, although some of these products may have been given to me in the past by various companies these products still remain to be my personal favorites which results in my purchasing them for myself continuously. This post is my own personal opinion, I am not an expert just someone that really likes makeup/beauty products.

I have the shimmer 88 palette!!! I can’t do without it. The colors are so pigmented and most of them rival their expensive MAC counterparts.

If you like that eye primer you should totally try the primer from ELF. Not the one in the lip gloss type tube, but the STUDIO one that is a primer on one end and a liner sealer on the other. I don’t use the sealer but the primer is the best eye shadow primer I’ve tried.

My holy grail mascara is Maybelline Colossal mascara – I love big, bold lashes with one coat. Fabulous stuff but it does tend to flake a week or two before other mascaras run out. For a more natural look I like Revlon Luxurious Lengths.

Revlon is the current foundation of choice. I usually use Everyday Minerals foundation but decided that I wanted to try a longer lasting liquid. Revlon’s Colorstay is phenomenal. It’s easily as good as MAC Studiofix, if not better. I find it less tacky. And it’s cheaper – score.

I’m sure there are a lot more products I could rave about (I *heart* all things CoverGirl) but it’s already an essay – sorry!

@mammajamma thanks for commenting, love your recommendations. Jealous of your 88 shimmer palette that one is on my wishlist this year along with the neutral palette.
Like you I could probably write a book on all of the beauty products that I love and why, I’m honestly surprised that I narrowed the list down to 10 :)

I swear by Rimmel’s soft kohl eyeliners (in dark brown and basic black). They glide on smooth, sharpen nicely and last all day and night! I’m also head over heels for Loreal’s HIP Duos, both the mattes and the metallics. I have at least eight of those bad boys in my makeup collection.
More recently I’ve gotten into Too Faced’s shadows, which I absolutely adore because they’re glittery, and I love all things glittery!

Oh, and I have to admit that I’m blown away by the prospect of foundation requiring a primer. I was always under the impression that foundation *was* the primer, lol.

(I apologize if this comment came through twice. After my first comment I hit submit, and was eventually redirected to a blank page.)

@Camera Sleuth, I like Rimmel’s makeup as well, great stuff. As for the L’oreal HIP Duos well you’ll hear more about my opinion on those in the coming weeks…shhhh!

I was a little skeptical about the whole foundation primer idea too until I recently tried it, like within the last month. Honestly with my skin I can definitely tell a difference. My face looks a lot smoother and the mineral powder foundation does tend to stay put a lot longer. The real test will come during the humid southern summers, if the primer can keep the makeup from running down my face I’ll definitely be a believer then. But you know when you use an eyeshadow primer how well the eyeshadow stays put and makes the colors really pop, its sort of the same concept with foundation primer.

And yes your comment did come in twice but i deleted the first one so you are all good now.
