Monetary Monday: Enjoying the Library

10 August 2009 4 Comments Disclosure

MadeaRecently, we have been enjoying our local library a lot more these days. My oldest son has had this spark in wanting to learn more and more, so to help us we are introducing the love of books to him. In our quest for more knowledge, I too have sparked my love of reading once again. Sometime you just get in a rut where you don’t feel like reading anything. But now I find myself looking forward to not only bedtime stories with the boys but also my own personal “storytime”.

I’ve noticed what taking an hour a day to unwind with a book can do. This is now quickly becoming one of my favorite times of my very busy days.

The best thing about finding the love of reading and using our local library is that it is FREE which makes it perfect for Monetary Monday. What I love most about my local library system is that they have an online website where I can go, search, and reserve books all without leaving home. I can get notified when my specific books on hold are available to be picked up, all without leaving the comforts of my home until I know what Im looking to read is available at my library. Check and see if your library also has this feature as well.

How do you enjoy your library? What are your favorite features?
Do you like going to “Story time” with your kidlets? Or maybe you like to read all of the newest best sellers? Share your library stories.

We frequent our local library as well. I love that our library also notifies us via email when a book we’ve put on hold is available (they’ll even hold it for us for 7 days), plus they give us advance warning when books are due. Muy helpful! We love grabbing a reference book if we need to know something (figured out what breed our rescued cat is this way) and sitting in one of the booths in the reading area while the kids pick out their selections. And now is a great time to visit if you haven’t been in a while, so it’s familiar once school starts again and you may find yourself making a trip for research for a school project.

We frequent our library often. I love that they also notify us when our “on hold” books are in, and even hold them for 7 days for us to pick up. Did you also know that many libraries offer digital books? Check with your local branch to see if they have “Overdrive” – a digital book/ebook distribution system. If so, you can reserve/download ebooks right to your home computer without even physically going anywhere!! Some libraries only have the audio versions, however, so you may want to check first. How cool is that? You can download a digital children’s book for the kids on a rainy day and not even get wet. Plus, it’s FREE!! Libraries rock!

And that’s what happens when you didn’t think you hit “Post Your Comment” and want to add a little tidbit, but in all actuality you did click! You end up looking like you really, REALLY like libraries, LOL!! Sorry for the double entry!
