Technically Thursday: Dell Studio Hybrid with the power of “Green”

4 June 2009 2 Comments Disclosure

Dell offered the Elevenmoms the opportunity to check out some of their latest models of computers. I’m so excited that they want to know what we Moms think about their computers. The computer that I’ve been testing out is called the Dell Studio Hybrid what is unique about this computer is that it is actually “Green”. Not only is the computer packaged in “green” recyclable materials but the computer itself is also “green”.
I personally have been very impressed with this little computer. We use it as our family computer so all members get to use it. Because of its fast speed it really helps make my video editing and blogging go a whole lot faster. One thing that I love about this computer is that I can watch web videos with ease, there is no skipping with this computer like I have had to deal with in past computers. I’ve never been a desktop type of person, just simply because I like to take my “information” with me on the go but like I mentioned in a previous post, you learn to adapt.
Since we’ve had the Dell Studio Hybrid in our home for around 6 months now, we couldn’t possibly see life without it. My children enjoy playing their educational activities on it, husband enjoys doing whatever he does on the computer like keeping up with his favorite sports teams etc. and I enjoy doing what I do best which is being active in social media and the blogging world.
I like that this computer is on the “green” side, since it is important for our family to try and use as little energy as possible it helps to know that this computer is helping us not only enjoy the things that we love doing but also doing it in a greener way. According to the Dell Website the Studio Hybrid is “80% smaller than a traditional desktop and uses 70% less power”. You know what that says to me? Savings in my pocket!
I think the Dell Hybrid is decently priced. Starting at around $499 for a basic unit.
The Dell Hybrid does have Windows Vista on it. Despite my complaints of Vista in the past, after adapting to the Hybrid Vista is functional. I’m not going to say that it is my favorite operating system but it gets the job done.
A good feature to note is that the colored “sleeves” on the outside of the tower are removable, meaning you can pick and choose colors to match your style. Mine just so happens to be pink *grin* and looks fab in my damask themed home office, I might add.
My Studio Hybrid came with a Widescreen Monitor and a wireless keyboard and mouse. At the moment of wireless I was in love! The keyboard and mouse are fabulous extra features and the widescreen monitor looks flawless which makes watching web videos a different kind of experience all together. Oh and another thing that made my little wireless heart skip a beat was the fact that the hybrid has built-in wireless internet connection. I haven’t seen many desktop computers that has wireless internet capabilities, so this was pretty awesome to see. I could definitely see this unit being used in a kitchen space as a central hub for the family.
There are only a couple of things that I think I would have liked to have seen included with the extras (monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse) and that would be a built-in webcam on the widescreen monitor. I never realized how much I relied upon my webcam on my previous laptop until I started using a desktop that didn’t have one. Also speakers built into the monitor would have been a nice feature as well. If you opt for the Hybrid package with monitor and keyboard/mouse it doesn’t come with speakers at least mine didn’t so I had to attach a pair of speakers from an older computer in order to get sound. But other than those features not being available the overall unit is fabulous.

So in short the powerful “green” Dell Studio Hybrid gets 2 thumbs up from the Diva and her crew!

Now I’m curious to see how many desktop owners are out there. Do you own a desktop? What is your primary use for it? Also, care to share what brand you have?

Congrats on getting to review such an awesome product! Having a desktop that you could change the colors of sounds pretty neat.

I have a desktop, but since getting my first laptop three years ago, I really don’t use it as much as I used to. It’s an HP, and it has a wireless keyboard and mouse as well as a 19″ LCD monitor, and I love it!
I use it for processing photos and printing them, for greeting card making, and for my daughter to play computer games on.

Jenn….I agree, the desktop is a great thing to have especially when it comes to watching videos, the widescreen is amazing and the speed is great for editing etc. Overall this computer gets used quite a bit by the whole family, my sons love playing their games on it as well. And I agree having the portability of a laptop is great for when you are a out and about or just dont feel like being confined to one particular space, it feels nice to have a desktop as a backup though.
