Get Thrifty! For the love of thrift stores

28 February 2009 8 Comments Disclosure

Recently I have been rekindling my love for thrift stores. Every week I go to my local thrift store and scan the racks looking for new fabulous finds. I prefer to do my thrifting during the week before the rush of the weekend. I also prefer to go on certain days when I know there will be new merchandise to sort through.

Thrift stores are great because you can often find things either gently used or brand new. At the thrift store that I frequently visit they get tons of unsold merchandise from local stores in the area. Many of these items still have the tags on them. Since the local stores couldn’t sell the products they donate them which gives me an opportunity to snatch them up at a cheap price. We aren’t talking knock-offs, we are talking the real deal. Name brand products you would expect to find at your favorite department store.

What is also great about thrift stores is there huge selection of jeans. Now ladies I know you will agree with me here, jeans are a nightmare to find. At least a good fitting pair. Don’t walk but run to your local thrift store and look at their jeans. They are fabulous. Most of them are slightly worn, comfy, already broken in just like we like them. And can you believe that you could probably find a fabulous pair under $5 depending on what thrift store you find them at.

Don’t be scared to go thrifting. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. No one ever has to know that you got that fabulous outfit that you are rockin from a thrift store.

Get Thrifty Challenge

This week I want to challenge you to find something fabulous at your local thrift store. You might have several thrift stores in your area so visit them all, find out which one you like the best that fits your style and get to shopping. Trying to make a whole outfit.

Need some inspiration? Find a look from one of your favorite celebs. Print it out and take it with you to the store. Trying to find pieces that resemble your inspiration picture.

Before you go out on the hunt. Make a goal for yourself. I typically set my spending limit at $20 (because $20 is a heck of a lot better than $100+ at a department store) and my goal is to try and make one outfit with that 20 dollar bill. It can be done. Be sure you go with an open mind. Some weeks are bound to be better than others.

The most important thing is to…HAVE FUN! Oh and don’t forget to come back and let us know if you find anything fabulous at your local stores this week. If you have a blog feel free to blog it and leave a link in the comments, we would love to check out your findings.

I love it when my local thrift stores have “sales.” It’s like when my husband gives me flowers… AND chocolate!

I always find great deals at the thrift shop. But you have to take the time to sort through stuff. I don’t mind that but my kids get bored.

I absoutely love Thrift Stores. I have not shopped for clothes in the Department for 15years. All my work clothes I buy from the Thrift Stores. In my area, once in a while they have a "Bag" sale, everything you can fit(unless otherwise marked "Not Included") into a brown bag for $5.00. My best find was my 5 fur coats costing less than $15.00 each in very condition.

Thrift stores are great! I'm so jealous of the bag deals you have at your local stores. I would love to find a place like that here.
