Get Thrifty: Save Money on Childrens Clothing, Toys, and Accessories with Consignment Sales

20 February 2009 5 Comments Disclosure

Childrens consignment sales on TwitPicTwice a year in many cities all around the country there are Children’s Consignment Sales. This is where Mom can get some huge deals on children’s clothing, toys, and accessories for the upcoming season. I encourage you to find out when or if your city has a consignment sale. If you are about to have a baby or if you already have kids this is when you get to rack up on everything that you will need for the next season. But word to the wise…get there early! Often times there is a line already forming an hour before the event starts. Once the word spread about these consignment sales they start to fill up quickly. You can either be a seller or a buyer, either way it is great for both Mom and kids.

This is an event that my Mom and I look forward to going to. We are more often than not able to get the boys all the clothes that they need for the upcoming season at a fraction of the cost it would take if we were to go and buy them new at a department store. The great thing about the consignment sale is that as we all know kids grow up fairly quickly so most of the clothing is gentle used or practically brand new with tags still on them.

So you want to know how you can clothe your kid while remaining on a budget? Consignment Sales! If you are currently pregnant you will be so thrilled at one of these type of sales because you are going to be able to get everything that you need for baby without the big price tag. Strollers, cribs, carriers, clothing, even bottles and other accessories are easily obtained at one of these sales.

Typically these sales are held twice a year. One right before spring and one in the fall. Some require that you pay a dollar or donate a can of food to get in while others are free to shop. It all depends on where you live.

Start googling now (children’s consignment sales) and see what pops up in your area. I’ll see YOU at the next big sale!

There are no kid’s consignment stores in Latvia, but we also use sales in LINDEX or H&M, which is very cheap then. Aurelia grows so fast, that I don’t see a reason why to spend big money on clothes for 3 month maximum. I always pick up something bigger in size, to have these 3 month. And I can’t buy by size, when its made for age. My sister was in Italy and bought her a coat as for 1 year age. Guess, Aurelia was 6 month young and coat was for few weeks. But it was summer, so we didn’t wear this coat.

Such a great idea, especially with our economy the way it is! Who can argue with cheap and chic?
