Got Veg? Home remedy to help reduce engorgement
You might be wondering why I have a salad coming out of my bra? Well according to several online resources and human contacts, cabbage leaves are supposedly a good home remedy to reduce engorgement. Since my milk hasn’t dried up yet, “the girls” have been very swollen and painful. To reduce engorgement there are several methods that I use…
1. wearing a really tight fitting sports bra, or even two at a time.
2. avoiding hot or warm water. Although this means that I have to take cold showers for a couple of days this is fine since I want to give “the girls” the hint that they don’t need to be making milk.
3. don’t touch ‘em. any sort of stimulation can tell “the girls” to produce milk.
4. cold compresses. This can be in the form of a cool washrag, ice packs, or the cabbage leaves.
So why cabbage and not say, lettuce? Well there is some sort of chemical in cabbage that tells your blood vessels to dilate improving the blood flow in that area. The coldness of the frozen cabbage reduces any swelling you might have.
So what do I do? Go to your local grocery and pick up a head of green cabbage. Take off several leaves. Wash and freeze them. Once frozen take them out and place them next to “the girls” under your bra. Leave them on until they start to wilt. The time can be anywhere between 20 mins to a couple of hours depending on how long you want to look like vegetation.
*word to the wise* wear an old well fitted bra that you don’t mind possibly turning green. As the lettuce wilts and warms to your body temperature it will start to turn the fabric green.
