Sew Crazy!

29 March 2007 4 Comments Disclosure

Photo 1So I’ve found a new hobby. SEWING!!! My mother gave me her sewing machine and now I want to sew everything!!! I can’t stop looking for patterns whenever I go to walmart and don’t get me started on the ALL DAY search I did today for patterns and fabric on ebay. Its like I’m obsessed and I haven’t even sewn anything yet. LOL.

A friend of mine introduced me to Amy Butler and Oh my goodness she is a total genius. All of her designs and fabrics are absolutely gorgeous. I went on a splurge and bought her new book Amy Butler’s In Stitches: More Than 25 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects because of an apron I saw that my friend had made that was too cute to pass up. And the best part is that on Amy Butler’s website she has some free patterns!!! Woo-hoo! There is a stuffed cat that I’m just dying to make for the new baby and a matching one for the pnut as well as turning the Cafe’ Apron into a skirt. BTW, I bought the Cafe’ Apron and Nappy Bag patterns off of Ebay earlier this week. They both came in the mail yesterday which has me even more excited. I’m now on the hunt for some really great fabric to make all of these little projects.

Help me I think I’m obsessed!!!!

Photo 2My mother and I have several projects lined up, here are just a few:

  • Make a mai tei wrap
  • purse
  • Make a BABY wrap
  • nappy bag
  • curtains for the laundry room and the babies room
  • aprons
  • skirts
  • pot holders
  • two cats
  • fleece blanket for bedroom
  • The baby related stuff is of course the first to be made, just simply because I’m going to pop a baby out in a matter of weeks. But first before I can indulge in my new sewing hobby, I must get the house clean, housework for the day done, my “work” done on the computer [which is writing my paid posts], and last but not least a shower taken.

Oh and my mother and I are going to teach ourselves to knit. I’ve always wanted to knit so we bought some easy to do kits at the craft store that were on sale. Whenever she comes over for the weekend we are going to teach each other how to knit. She knows some of the techniques already that my grandmother had taught her so hopefully she can remember and teach me. I’d love to add knitting and sewing to my list of things that I can do. Its hard trying to be the well-rounded stay at home mom.

Congrats on the new hobby ;) Sewing can be quite addictive even when you’re not actively sewing there’s plenty of things to buy and shop for and drool over!

Look forward to seeing some pictures of those projects :)
